2017 theme Journalism & Media

In this session, Global Voices community leaders will describe how our decentralized, multilingual citizen media networks has worked over the past 16 months to improve safety throughout our community. We'll share major insights and present a few concrete techniques we developed along the way that really helped us to make progress.

Our session will focus on safety and the act of independent journalistic writing and translating online -- that is, blogging, reporting, even writing that is published only on Facebook, as long as it comes with the intent of reporting about an issue of public interest.

The session will be geared towards security trainers who want to better understand use cases and user mentality in this field, as well as journalists and media workers interested in improving safety methods and thinking in their work.
