Storytelling can have a more powerful amplifying potential to mobilize and build bridges of understanding than traditional activist narratives. Why? Because it can burst our bubbles and push our cause beyond our normal audience circles.

We will present some strategy and media planning tools that can help us tell a more compelling story. We will open the room to discuss ways to effectively measure our success in transmitting a message.

To illustrate our points, we will visit some examples from spontaneous, organic online conversations that evolved into a movement, to designed advocacy campaigns that used storytelling to engage more people to their causes.

- NiUnaMás / NiUnaMenos / Mi Primer Acoso (Mexico, Chile, Argentina, Ecuador): Movements across Latin America against gender violence have surged after notorious feminicides and abuse cases in the region. From Twitterstorms to art displays, women across countries have cried out loud: ¡not one more!

- Digital Rights Advocacy for Iran: Documenting Iran’s internet controls policies has been part of our GV Iran/Advox coverage over the past few years. Doing advocacy work on this issue is complex, if not short of advocating for rights to a government that will never listen. These examples will look at the difficulties, if not subtle openings for advocacy that that digital rights campaigns must turn to such as the internal advocacy moderate and reformist elements have done not to censor Telegram and Instagram these past few years in Iran; and the difficulties and nuances that need to be played out to campaign for the release of persecuted of bloggers and technologists:
